General Discussion / Re: Ask Kayhynn over on EOGamer.com
« on: December 09, 2010, 04:23:15 pm »
It's a good question, one I might have to answer in one of the next articles....

When I upgrade my stuff, I look through a number of review sites and online shopping stores, especially newegg.  People will review products and give advice on them.

I need to look up a couple of links for ya, but there are some online magazines that review builds as well.

General Discussion / Ask Kayhynn over on EOGamer.com
« on: December 01, 2010, 08:24:49 pm »
Okay as most of you know, I write stuff when I have time over at EOGamer.com

I've decided, after years of thinking of doing it at other sites to finally do an Ask Kay article once a week.

I'll answer 5 gaming related questions each week, prolly on Fridays. This is your opportunity to ask questions that may appear on the site and be answered. So ask your questions in reply to this thread. I'll post a link each week to the article here as well. Questions can be about my gaming history, my take on games, WoW related questions, trivia.... whatever. If I don't have an answer to it, I'll try to find one smile.gif

And, once again, I'll encourage folks who are interested to post over on our forums as well, which are deader than a doornail.

Soooo on your mark...get set....ask.

General Discussion / Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2 on sale at Steam
« on: October 06, 2010, 04:01:00 pm »
Not sure how long the sale is going on, but the combo pack is less than $11.  Left4Dead 2 is $6.79 on steam.

If you like zombies and FPS, this game is for you.  I'm downloading both cuz they're cheap heh.

Be sure you follow that link and post a reply there.

Due to how we're running the contests, we have to have all registrations through there

General Discussion / Vindictus: Anyone interested?
« on: September 14, 2010, 03:19:56 am »
Is anyone in the Watch interested in playing Vindictus?  It's a free to play game by Nexon which has received rave reviews.

We're following it pretty closely at EOGamer and we have 100 beta keys to give away.

http://vindictus.eogamer.com/node/150

If you're interested, I still gotta make the watch go through the system, but post a reply and chances are you'll get in.  We've been told we will get more keys if we run out.

I would like to point out (since I help run the gaming site heh) that EOGamer has a forum dedicated to SWTOR and posts all the news they send our way there.

You can access that individual forum here: http://forums.eogamer.com/forumdisplay.php?70-Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic

If you live in the midwest this event is for you.

Taking place in Ottumwa, Iowa, the event will have a Human vs. Zombies non-video game event, Bring Your Own Computer/Console event, a full blown, old style arcade, Gamer of the Year tournament and more.

Tickets are 52.50 for four days with free camping if you choose a camping ticket.  Family tickets are $100 and include 2 adult passes and 2 children under 14 passes.  children 5 and under are free.

3 nights of concerts, a historic display, celebrities, discussion panels and more.

For more information http://www.ivghof.com

So why am I pimping this event?  Well, I'm on the event committee and I think with as many gamers as we have, I'm sure some of our guildies would love to attend!

Let me know if you plan on it and I'll try to meet up with you.

General Discussion / Just because....the car I am trying to buy
« on: May 13, 2010, 07:24:03 pm »
I've had bad luck with cars that I want to buy.  Basically in 24-48 hours, the car I express interest in has sold.
This one has not, but it's out of town, which frustrates me to no end.  They're part of a big dealership and are SUPPOSED to bring it back to Lincoln, but htey haven't done so for two days.

BUt....if you believe in luck...wish me luck on getting the linked vehicle:

Thanks.

I had a few things happen last week that put a halt on writing the articles.

I never knew how hard it was to research car loans and research buying a new to me (aka used) car.  Trying to replace my truck before it gives up the ghost.  I had found the perfect car.   By the time my loan got approved, it was sold.  Now I'm waiting for a new car loan packet to come in and match it to the next perfect car (which I have picked out).

But wow...so much to consider for new vehicles.

This week's article will be coming up later today.  I got royally flooded by other stuff this weekend and unable to work on stuff.

Sure!  It's all volunteer spots right now, but we're always looking for more help :)

Protecting Yourself Part 2: Windows Updates

Part Two of our Protecting Yourself series focuses on Windows Updates: what are they, why they are important, how often you should do updates and how not updating your computer puts you at risk.

You can read the article here: http://www.eogamer.com/node/67

The folks over at NCSoft created this awesome PSA. Check it out regarding Gold sellers/power leveling services...it's humorous but also truth telling

Connor, I could, but as once I publish it on EOGamer, it is copyrighted to EOGamer, it makes a conflict of interests.  You're free to link to it and all of that, and in theory copying verbatim is okay too as you aren't profiting off of it...but as EOGamer isn't even breaking even from ads, we'd loose revenue having an ad-free version of our articles elsewhere.

For those that use Windows 7, they have added parental controls that are actually useful. I highly recommend their use for surfing and gameplay.

Basically what this one feature does is the same as what Deep Freeze does, but instead of having to restart your computer, you only have to log off. Everything you've done while logged into this account is undone.

Use the admin account for updates and things, but use the regular account for surfing. Totally safe. You can have a separate area that is untouched and you can save files there, or even use a USB drive or thumb drive.
That and a few other things will be talked about in future articles.

Article Line Up right now looks like this:
Part 2: Windows Updates and You
Part 3: Windows Protection Services
Part 4: Anti-virus, spyware and firewalls
Part 5: Browser security
Part 6: In-game messages, phishing, account security and the devious nature of hackers
Part 7: Buy gold? Power-leveling?  Not a good idea
Part 8: I use a Mac.  I'm invulnerable.. .right?  Wrong.
Part 9: Other advice

If anyone has any thoughts of things to include or articles to add, please let me know :)
