Well... I was gonna say something about our current presidential race, but I didn't want to start a big flame war here on our guild forum where we all end up getting incinerated in a big nookyooler fireball, so I opted to just say rutabega instead. Safer that way. :)

Umm, rutabega! That usually gets a laugh out of folks, or maybe not.

That makes sense. I'd feel pretty weird if complete strangers were always thanking me for just doing my job.

That's a good write up, and the John Stewart Mill quote is also good. It's true that we are gradually losing a lot of important people who played a role in a major part of our history.

At the hotel where I work, we get a lot of military groups coming through, on their way to deployment, coming back from deployment, and a host of other reasons. I make a point of saying thank you when I get a chance, sometimes they seem pleased to hear it, but some of the guys seem to get offended. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to thank them for their service, maybe I should just keep quiet, but I'll keep saying it because of the ones who brighten up and smile in response.

Ah, the W word. I'll be getting back to that tomorrow morning. I got set on fire by a boss once, when I was much younger. That was after I lost my temper and shouted a bunch of obscenities at him in front of the other Workers. After that I discovered the Q word (Quit), which is usually a good way to escape and avoid being set on fire, but some bosses are so mean they'll set you on fire while you're trying to escape.

The good news is that as you get older, you become immune to the effects of fire. I'm not sure why, maybe your skin becomes so tough and leathery that it just doesn't bother you anymore.

I saw a video of a commencement speech he gave at Carnegie-Mellon. The speech was highly impassioned and full of insight, sort of like the speech Yul Brinner made when he was dying. If only we could be that passionate and focused when we were young, humanity would've conquered the galaxy a long time ago.

Camoflage only works if you're standing perfectly still, which also makes you an easy target for anyone with a keen eye. :)

Of course, maybe I shouldn't have tried to take on a toon 25 levels higher than me...

Yeah, in a situation like that you usually only have 2 tactical options; run like hell, or valiant martyrdom.

"Unchained" by Van Halen.  In my wedding, I walked down the aisle to it.

Best Eddie VanHalen riff ever, IMO. That must've been a fun wedding :)

I checked out the Living Legends site, and it does look really good, it would be awesome to see a BT total conversion mod successfully completed and released to the public. I read a while back that the mektek.net folks were working on a total conversion for Quake Wars: Enemy Territory. As far as I know, it's still in development. A couple of years ago I read about a group that was developing a Battlestar Galactica (modern) total conversion for the Freespace 2 engine. They had a demo video on their site with vipers in combat that was totally awesome, but alas, to this day no actual game that we can play. The City of Doors initiative to make the Planescape setting available for Neverwinter Nights is another example of talented gamers coming together with grand ideas to develop an awesome mod for an existing game, and nothing ever coming of it. I would really love to see one of these community efforts come to fruition, but so far, no luck.

I have an interest in the game, been loosely following it's development. I'm a fan of SG1 and SGA.

Ok, that's a CD then if it's 700MB. You could try right-clicking on one of the movie files and click send to -> zipped folder, but with movie files I'm not sure you'll get enough compression. Burning them onto a DVD disc might be the only option.

If you're running Win XP, you should be able to open "My Computer", and see your DVD drive listed there along with your hard drive and any other drives. If you click on the DVD drive, you should see a list of options appear on the left side of the My Computer window. One of the options should be burn or copy files to DVD. Click on that, a blank window should pop up, just drag the .wmv files one at a time into the window then click copy these files to disc on the left. That's how win XP handles burning files to CD, a DVD burner shouldn't be much different. I'd try to burn 4 files at first, if that's too big, try 3.

Yeah, .wmv files are usually licensed for temporary use, like a video rental. You watch em on your PC or portable player, then delete the files after the license expires. Sorry about that Daxe, I didn't realize you were looking for episodes to burn to DVD, when you said save to disc, I thought you meant saving to a hard drive. If you bought the episodes as a permanent purchase, you should be able to burn them to a DVD, but you'll probably just be able to fit 3 episodes on each DVD, maybe 4.

I've never burned a DVD before, just CDs. Are you sure the whole thing is just 1 GB? Asking because my Firefly episodes come out to 5.15 GB total. Also, what format are the files in?

The stuff I DLed from them I saved to disk, and I think it was a 7 day rental type of thing, where you can watch it whenever for 7 days, then the DRM lisence runs out. The stuff I downloaded was old Babylon 5 episodes, before I broke down and bought the boxed set.

Edit: And I'm pretty sure you can re-download stuff you've already purchased, in case something disastrous happens, like a hard drive crash.

Ahh, that's a great show, some of the best TV ever made, IMO. I have all the episodes on my PC  :)

Amazon has a department called Amazon Unbox that has movie and TV show downloads. I used them before to get some old sci fi series that aren't available anymore. Their prices are reasonable, and I never had any problems downloading.
