They just released a pretty awesome cinematic trailer. http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/deceived-cinematic-trailer?sourceid=ea3719

Edit: They've also confirmed the Smuggler class is in.

The trooper class looks pretty sweet. I wonder if they'll have Mandalorian mercs as a counter-balance, since the trooper looks like it's republic faction only.

Yeah, I like the idea of them being neutral, or maybe members of their own underworld faction, able to play both sides of the fence. I guess we'll have to wait for more info about how factions will work.

I know, the BH class looks sick! I have read though that it only may pertain to the Empire. So it seemed to me that no BH's for the republic. =[. Kinda seems odd, the way they explain it I suppose makes sense.....but still a bit dissapointing. I am sure Bioware has something up there sleeves for everyone though.=]

Not sure they'll be sith only, the page describes bounty hunters as being individualisti c, each having his or her own code of ethics (or lack thereof). Republic BHers might be more like law enforcement personnel, where sith or neutral-aligned would be more like assassins or executioners.

There's a new video on the website that describes the game's timeline http://www.swtor.com/info/timeline/timeline1

They've posted a first look at the Bounty Hunter class on the website. There's a cool video of one shooting while flying by jetpack in the combat tactics section. http://www.swtor.com/info/classes/bounty-hunter?sourceid=ea3254

One piece of good news: they've confirmed Bounty Hunter as a class (has it's own class discussion board for folks to get their opinions in early), and have hinted at smuggler/underworld criminal, and soldier/spec ops classes. There's also a poll taking votes on a wide range of what classes people would like to see in the game. http://www.swtor.com/community/

Soooooo everyone is gonna be a Jedi then?

No firm answer from the devs yet, but pretty much all the fans are saying there have to be non-jedi classes available, and there have been hints of other classes like smuggler, BH, commando, etc. Just no details released yet, but they have have said they'll be releasing details of other classes as they get further along in development. I, for one, won't buy the game if jedi is the only class available to players.

I really like the way the environments look. The one scene where the character was exiting a cave into an open forest was pretty awesome. That, and so far the creatures look great as well, IMO. I'm not too crazy about how all the characters look like they're wearing spandex jumpsuits right now, but I have a feeling that's just pre-alpha placeholder clothing. They've gotten a lot of criticism on their forums about that, and the devs have talked about how they're putting a lot of work into having flowing robes, capes, armor, etc., so I think that look will change a lot as the game gets further into development.

Hey Gavin, long time no see. TK speed duel no armor/no buffs?  ;D

lol it has been a while Moz, those duels never got old. I miss those days. :-[

That was some of the most fun pvp I've ever experienced. See how fast you can knock the other guy out, or see how fast you can knock yourself out lol. Doing it without buffs really required some thought, determining exactly how many of which moves you could execute without incapping yourself, and precise timing.

On a related note, BioWare just released a video on the making of Tython, one of the worlds in the game, with some very nice gameplay footage. http://www.swtor.com/media/vidcasts/devdispatch001?sourceid=ea3017

We had another thread going a while back about TOR http://www.royalblackwatch.net/forums/index.php?topic=1004.0. Connor, Ki, Daxe, Urr, I, and a few others have expressed interest in the game. TOR is still a year or so from release, so I guess it's still just casual conversation.

The other thread isn't official or anything, so any place is a good place to talk about it.

My sponsor is listed as "1CAC_Major_Max" whom I have never spoken with.  I vividly remember how I joined the Watch (was playing as Nephie at the time, before that data was corrupted on their server...).  Long story short, Connore of LOTRO did all of the work.

I went into the roster and changed your sponsor to Connore (B Company).

If anyone else's sponsorship data is incorrect, please post here or send me a PM and I'll try to fix it.

Hi Gromalin, I see your profile listed on the B Company (LOTRO) roster, so you are signed up for the guild. I can't sponsor you myself, that has to be someone from B Co.. You should be able to log in to the forums using the same username and password you use for the rest of the site. That way you can access the rest of the boards. Also, chatting up one of the guild officers in-game should help resolve the issue.

Aye, we got young'uns, old'uns, and in-between'uns in the guild. I be one of the old'uns, but methinks Connor be the oldest'un, what with the powered wheelchair and all, arrrr. But he's an army man, so it be a heavily armored wheelchair, with a cannon mounted on it, painted all camoflage and such, arrrr.

There's another program called GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) that's popular. It's open source freeware, so it's free to download for personal use. It's a photoshop-type program.

Yeah, from reading Wine's description it says it can run "many" windows apps, it doesn't say "all". So I'm guessing there are some apps it can't run. Buying a new game would be risky because it might not work. Would have to download a free demo first, or look for feedback on the Wine forums. One of the screenshots on the Wine site is someone playing NWN on Wine. Hehe, if nothing else I could play EVE on Linux.

With regard to Vista, if MS offered a "try it free for 30 days" kind of deal I know I would download it and give it a try, just the basic OS with none of the bells and whistles, but the word "free" kind of goes against everything MS is about.

With XP, MS finally got it right. They released a stable and robust OS that anyone could use. Vista seems like a step backward to the old BSOD days. Judging from the Mojave Experiment ads that have been popping up, it seems MS is aware they screwed up. Hopefully with Windows 7 they'll take that lesson to heart.

Hehe, I don't know much about it really, but I did find this site: http://www.winehq.org/

The site seems to explain what Wine is all about.

"Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris."

I've heard that there's a Windows emulator called WINE (I think) that lets you run Windows apps in a Linux environment.

I hadn't heard that MS was going to shut down the XP activation servers. When that happens is when I'll probably be going over to Linux.
