Ok soooo been looking into Biowares new game for Star War buffs. http://www.swtor.com/ (http://www.swtor.com/) . Really not to sure on when it will be hitting the shelfs or if there is even a launch date locked in. Who knows, in my mind nothing(not even WoW) will ever stand up to pre CU SWG. Miss that game. :(. But hey this is some major hope for the MMO world. Not only is it Star Wars, but it is Bioware, which has never let me down. Just a thought. Take care all. Oh and sorry if this is a re-post of the game not sure if anoyone else said anything on it...tried to search forums to check. :-\. Good day all!

We had another thread going a while back about TOR http://www.royalblackwatch.net/forums/index.php?topic=1004.0 (http://www.royalblackwatch.net/forums/index.php?topic=1004.0). Connor, Ki, Daxe, Urr, I, and a few others have expressed interest in the game. TOR is still a year or so from release, so I guess it's still just casual conversation.
The other thread isn't official or anything, so any place is a good place to talk about it.

I really like the way the environments look. The one scene where the character was exiting a cave into an open forest was pretty awesome. That, and so far the creatures look great as well, IMO. I'm not too crazy about how all the characters look like they're wearing spandex jumpsuits right now, but I have a feeling that's just pre-alpha placeholder clothing. They've gotten a lot of criticism on their forums about that, and the devs have talked about how they're putting a lot of work into having flowing robes, capes, armor, etc., so I think that look will change a lot as the game gets further into development.

That was some of the most fun pvp I've ever experienced. See how fast you can knock the other guy out, or see how fast you can knock yourself out lol. Doing it without buffs really required some thought, determining exactly how many of which moves you could execute without incapping yourself, and precise timing.

No firm answer from the devs yet, but pretty much all the fans are saying there have to be non-jedi classes available, and there have been hints of other classes like smuggler, BH, commando, etc. Just no details released yet, but they have have said they'll be releasing details of other classes as they get further along in development. I, for one, won't buy the game if jedi is the only class available to players.

Funny how you asked about jedi being the only class Urr. I am with you as well Moz, I really dont want to bum around with a whole world of jedi. No fun and just no spice to life with that mix. I really cant say I wont play a jedi but it has never really been my cup of tea (thanks SWG for ruining jedi in the MMO world.). My brother and I were just talking about how jedi ruined the SWG world by being way op.(compared to the other classes.). Obviously a jedi in the times of vader and what not should be incredibly op, the unfourtunate thing is SWG was not taking that into consideration, that jedi in that time were crazy good cause they survived there whole people being wiped from exsistance. With TOR the good news is you have fresh jedi, with it being the clone era. SOOOO that should take care of any op factors. So I can see a jedi being just another class as opposed to the jedi of SWG days.
Welp there is my rant for the day. Sorry for the ear full all. :-\

Well I know that in the normal Star Wars Game they had subclasses of Jedi and not all were the same power.. A thought is a idea that the Jedi are there as well as others and you can either play pure classes or multi-classes.

I definately like the multi class option but I'm no Jedi. I enjoyed the medic role and would probably go that way again.
I agree...the CU killed the game for me and of course just eliminating classes is just rude.
hehe Gavin, I don't know why I ever bothered to duel you...I never ever won and never came close ! If I recall weren't you the martial arts expert ?

I was a TKM...I thought I had something else, but I cant remember. I do remember duels, :) I miss them and that game(pre CU), adn the crew we had on there. I do agree with you Daxe, the removing of all of there classes and what not was rude and a very wrong turn for them to make with all the veteren players they had. Was a sad day to quit that game. ='[. Hope Bioware does something similar but diffierent enough to keep us enjoying the game.

One piece of good news: they've confirmed Bounty Hunter as a class (has it's own class discussion board for folks to get their opinions in early), and have hinted at smuggler/underworld criminal, and soldier/spec ops classes. I know, the BH class looks sick! I have read though that it only may pertain to the Empire. So it seemed to me that no BH's for the republic. =[. Kinda seems odd, the way they explain it I suppose makes sense.....but still a bit dissapointing. I am sure Bioware has something up there sleeves for everyone though.=]

Not sure they'll be sith only, the page describes bounty hunters as being individualisti c, each having his or her own code of ethics (or lack thereof). Republic BHers might be more like law enforcement personnel, where sith or neutral-aligned would be more like assassins or executioners.

Sweet to know a bit more of the timeline, thanks Moz. :). I know what you are saying too Moz, BH's are there own man and it makes sense with what you are stating. My only worry is how they have them described in the BH section. It really only talks about the Empire really using them. It is to soon to jump in and say faction class....I just hope you are right Moz, BH's are their own person, I really dont see how you can say they are "good" or "evil". It just wouldnt make sense....

I think they should make BHs neutral...in the PvP aspect of things,if a BH attacks a Republic aligned then they are attackable(is that a word?) by players for the Republic for a certain length of time and same for the Empire.This adds more an element of danger imho.Also,BHs should have the option of gaining faction with one side or the other.What do yall think?

I like the faction idea a lot Dalantos! That is one of many things I loved about SWG(pre CU) was having to gain the faction to join the Republic/Imperials. It made you feel proud, cause you had to work for it and earn new rankings. it was really cool. The only thing of having a BH stay neutral the whole time is you may scare a BH away from the game. Still a good idea. :)

Yeah, I like the idea of them being neutral, or maybe members of their own underworld faction, able to play both sides of the fence. I guess we'll have to wait for more info about how factions will work.

The trooper class looks pretty sweet. I wonder if they'll have Mandalorian mercs as a counter-balance, since the trooper looks like it's republic faction only.

I am very psyched for this game to come out!!! I liked how they seemed to integrate at least a few different class choices into the combat vid- for both sides even.

The bounty hunter was especially cool, I thought. If the actual character in-game can do the things the BH did in the video, like using the jetpack to scale tall buildings, and flying around for extended periods blasting everything in sight, I'll most likely have a sith BH alt 8)

I'd be willing to take on project officer for SWTOR, unless Freaden, Tadik, or someone else really interested in the game wants it, since I already have a job in the watch :)
The game is still in pre-alpha though, and about 1-2 years from release by most estimates, I think it's still too early to form an actual company. That's just my opinion, though.

I have a very busy 2009-10 schedual. With classes starting this fall and being busy with my church and then my wedding next summer I am pretty busy(good busy) for the next year-ish, Moz it is all yours man! :). Maybe closer to the release date will I have a better idea of maybe going for an officer postion for the company. Hopefully we will see a lot of the F company return as well as many new people. :). Miss that bunch. So Moz or Tadik or whoever it may be you have my vote.

The smuggler looks pretty interesting, I wonder what the next class reveal will be. Maybe a sith class, since the last 2 have been republic. One thing I find curious is that there hasn't been any mention of a medic class yet.

hello Urr!! Got back about a month ago, and started gaming again...took me 2 weeks to get readmitted to the guild, for some reason I was dropped and rank stripped, working on getting that taken care of. So, how are things with everyone? Just found out about Freh...really, really, really going to miss him.
On a lighter note, I'm with B company now, enjoying the fellowship of some new friends, and really looking forward to the new star wars mmo....you will definately see me there!

Hey Sahe, welcome back. :) Xera and I are still playing SWG, though we're on Starsider server now. Unfortunately, the pop on Wanderhome declined to the point where the game really wasn't enjoyable. The good news is Starsider is crowded. If you'd like to join us, they have free character transfers available until June 30th, and they just started another free account reactivation. It's either 14 days or 30 days, I can't remember which.

Yep, like Tadik said, we are keeping an eye on SWTOR. Connor has expressed a keen interest in the game, and I believe we will be forming a company there.

I won't get my hopes up though, BioWare has a history of delaying launches until everything is up to standards. Dragon Age has been in development for 6 or 7 years now, IIRC, and they just delayed the launch of that one by a couple of months.

I watched that this morning for the first time, it's an excellent gameplay video that gives one a feel for what to expect in the game. One thing I noticed though, is that the imperial starship captain has the same face as the bounty hunter's mentor, he's just wearing a cap. Hoping this is just early development footage and things like that will get fleshed-out as things progress. As a long-time player of BioWare games, I'm still not 100% convinced they'll be able to translate their epic single-player RPGs into the MMO space, but if anyone can do it, it's them.

True, but you have to remember the austin studio was started in 2006 to deal with the demand of working on to many projects at once. That was 3 years ago, if you go and dig through all the press releases from Bioware you also have to look at Obsidian and why they were brought in to do KotOR 2. Bioware was qouted they were working on another game of the same Genre and didn't want the 2 products influnacing each other... It looks like the Old Republic could have been in development for far longer then we have even been told so far.
Yeah, I first reported on BioWare's "super-secret-as-yet-unannounced" MMO here on these forums several years ago, back on the old forums, before the great crash (tm), when speculation was flying that it might be an old republic-themed game, but no one was sure (probably one of the worst-kept secrets ever in the video game industry, because everyone who had played KotOR knew it couldn't be anything else).

Here it is!! The first Sith class announced, the Sith Warrior....int eresting...I wonder if they are going to make a class like this for each jedi/sith like warrior, healer, sentenal, etc. Then the talent trees may make you better at your class instead of determining what your class is, like just having a generic jedi/sith and then going into your tree choice, tank,healer, dps. That would be a nice change and gives more class options. Who knows though I am rambling. Either way,it's looking great! Oh yeah...duh!. I guess I should have kinda figured that lol. Still would be good to get some of the Watchers in the game. Once they can share with the rest of us, it would be good to know how the game runs and what to expect come launch.

PreCU SWG was great.. (Shipwright/Droid Engineer)
for SW:TOR I have signed up for the beta. (fingers crossed) planning to be a non-jedi on the side of light of course.
there is also a group of fans working on getting a PreCU SWG back up and running.. lots of glitches and bugs so far.. check out SWGEmu for details on it.

Pre NGE swg was great....I really liked SWG but after NGE just couldn't get into it anymore....eve n after going back for a short time it just wasn't the same to me. But would we have enough involvement for a private SWG shard?

Well, with a whole year to wait for SW:TOR I've been checkin out the SWGEmu.
It's pre-CU. Been playing on the test server for about a month now and it's been fun.Alot of people on and the cantina is full in Cnet.
It is a test server though and they will occasionally wipe. They are close to completion and will open a live server(sun crusher).
I figure it'll pass the time while I wait for TOR.
Until then...I'm holo-grinding!!! WOOT!!!

If you still have your original SWG and JTL disks,intall them.Do not update with Sony's launchpad. Instead download and install SWGEmu's "Enhanced Launchpad" and let it update. I did this and haven't had any problems.
The game is bugged at the moment(it's a test server after all)but it's coming along.Great community(lotta familiar faces there).Everyone there is very supportive. If you miss the Pre-CU dayz then check it out. You can always uninstall if you don't like it.

i tried it out back about 6months ago and had a few concerns that they did not seem to be developing the crafting professions.. (Everyone was a TK) has that changed?

I never had JTL disks.. Someone gave me a code to DL it... do you NEED JTL to play?

No, you don't need JTL to play. They have been working on crafting although,there still is a number of things that still need fixing.I know there are several armorsmiths and weaponsmiths. And harvesters are being dropped everywhere.
As far as TK,it's still pretty popular.I'm a novice BH atm. Lot of swordsman,rifleman and pistoleers.Ent ertainers and Doctors and medics too!
